Mid Calf Boots

Let me first preface with the following. There are some people that can pull off any look. Yes. The problem is that most people will try to pull off looks that are highly unflattering to themselves, simply because they think that it is the fashionable trend of the moment. This is a terrible choice.

Certain fashion pieces have a high level of potential to be incredibly UNFLATTERING to your body. Just because they are in style DOES NOT MEAN YOU SHOULD WEAR THEM! Let me introduce you to Life Lesson #3:
In style does not = LOOKS GOOD ON EVERYONE.

For example:

As evidenced at the Louis Armstrong Airport in New Orleans: Mid Calf Boots are usually not a good look. ESPECIALLY, when paired with leggings.

Though the picture is not great as it was captured by my cell and may be difficult to see, I should note that I immediately noticed this woman. Not for a good reason. With her jacket open, she was wearing leggings as pants (A Cardinal Violation of Life Lesson #1) and she was wearing scrunched mid calf boots that 100% did not flatter her calves. The lady clearly has well toned legs, but the boots eliminate all definition.

They make her legs look thicker.

Fashionistas, I implore you. Please only wear styles that flatter your body! Your lives will be better!

My current obsession for the day is the new pair of blue shoes I purchased at Forever 21. They were incredibly inexpensive, and the sparkle and height made them something I absolutely could not pass up. I feel adorable and festive all at the same time. I am also loving my red Smashbox lipgloss. It's super fast to slick on, and it gives me a bright shiny color without feeling gooey.

Ugly Christmas Sweaters

Ugly Christmas Sweaters
Ugly Christmas Sweaters by mhigham featuring christmas tops

Who in their right mind pays money for these sweaters, except as a novelty to wear to an ugly Christmas party? Or because you are a grandmother and/or an old lady teacher.

My coworker had the excellent plan that we should rock the ugly Christmas sweater look (and have an unofficial contest) at our holiday party. My organization hosts a laid back, afternoon party at a local restaurant. Low-key, not fancy, open bar. Perfect venue for an ugly sweater show-down.

In my search for said ugly sweater... I have hit up 3 different used clothing stores. Since when are ugly holiday sweaters in demand?? There was not one to be had for under $35! AGAIN... WHO IS BUYING THESE? Who is paying $35+ for an ugly sweater party costume?? I am indignant and outraged.

Seriously? I mean, I realize that these parties have become more and more en vogue, but that second hand no-brand ugly sweaters are being priced so high? This is shocking.

On a positive note, I am rocking my Kate Spade gift bow earrings for the first time. They are absolutely adorable, and are my current obsession and accessory of choice.

"Oh No She Didn't-'s" at the Memphis Airport

The father-son cowboy hats are pretty adorable...

...but Mom's bag??? "At least I wouldn't shave my collie to make a backpack..."

It appears she killed a cow and a muppet to make an oversized bowling bag.

Ohhhh people.

Unfortunate. Truly unfortunate.

#2

Prompted by a sighting on Bethesda Row in Bethesda, MD today...

When wearing denim shorts: if you can see the inside fabric for the pockets BELOW the line of the short... YOUR SHORTS ARE TOO SHORT TO WEAR IN PUBLIC.

Another tip.

When it is 34 degrees outside, DO NOT wear denim shorts-that-are-too-short-to-wear-in-public, over a pair of black pantyhose.

Why yes, people are staring at you. No, it's not because you look awesome.

This is simply not a good look for anyone that hasn't lost their pants in a nuclear explosion.

Please tell your friends.

In other news, my current obsessions of the moment are Yves Saint Laurent purple mascara and M.A.C. purple eyeliner. Excellent, excellent, excellent.
